“Our participation in this networking event aims to promote the “Youth Capital Award” as a good practice, replicable and transferable in different geographical context. The primary purpose of the initiative is the promotion and activation of innovative ideas and projects, with the aim of ensuring that young people play an increasingly important role in civil society.
The challenge of the “Youth Capital” for the future is to present an effective model of youth policies that can also be replicated in other cities and to enhance the importance that the city gives to the young people, in the desire to create the conditions so that they can develop, innovate the territory and be an important signal for all those who want to actively contribute to the growth of their city.
As the Goal 17 stipulates the importance of global partnership as means of implementation, we want to stimulate the stakeholders and participants to create partnerships among each other and proactively take necessary actions. As the SDGs 11 promotes, we want to underline that the “Youth Cities Award” can support the building of inclusive, resilient and safe cities.
Objective of the Youth Capital Award is to share best practices in the development of a urbanization that take care of young people; to promote the inclusive youth engagement and to improve quality of their life in the city; to foster the implementation of SDG 11 and the role of girls and boys, young women and men in the achievement of the goal; to promote the connection between urbanization, culture and innovation as a basis for achieving inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements, as promoted by SDG 11; to promote the role of young people in the building of inclusive cities communities; to improve the quality of life of young people in the city and achieving urban dimensions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This project has its correspondent at the European level with the European Youth Capital Award, established by the European Youth Forum.
The European Youth Forum is the platform of youth organizations in Europe and Italian Youth Council is its members. The European Youth Capital title invites cities across the continent to re-think how they empower and include young people.
It is crucial that young people have equal opportunity to shape the social, economic and political life of where they live. The European Youth Capital initiative aims to support both young people and the city to open up these possibilities and lead the way for other European municipalities to follow.
We consider this as a positive example of Youth Participation and, in line with the theme of the whole conference, we think youth participation can increase the development of young and smart cities
We call for a transformative commitments as social inclusion and ending poverty, ensuring sustainable and inclusive urban prosperity and opportunities for all, promoting environmentally sustainable and resilient urban development. There is a huge positive impact coming from this commitment of youth, in many different areas, and we absolutely think it should be supported and considered as an example.
We hope this was interesting for you and we remain at your disposal if you would like to implement this idea in your countries.
THANK YOU”
